Churches in Ormesby St. Michael Parish

Ormesby: St Michael

Main Road Ormesby St Michael Great Yarmouth

Welcome to our church, which serves the village of Ormesby St Michael, though several of us live in neighbouring villages.

We are a friendly crowd and have a regular congregation of around 30 people at Sunday services. See our Services and Event page for service times. We normally use pre-recorded music at all of our services, played through our modern sound system.

The Church is a beautiful, Grade 2 listed building, with a mixture of comfy pews and additional temporary seating that can house up to 70 people, plus a children's area. The building is in particularly good structural order, is lovingly maintained and provides a lovely worship space, but with room for medium sized study groups, meetings, and local contact groups.

Though built in the 13 and 14th centuries, the church was cleverly renovated in the 1970s and feels very comfortable and modern inside. It has a modern kitchen extension and disabled-inclusive toilet facilities and huge (40+ car capacity), floodlit, car park which has proven very handy. Access is flat and relatively wheelchair friendly. There is a loop system for the hard of hearing.

In recent years, St Michael's has been the mission / outreach hub of the benefice, hosting Alpha and Emmaus courses and Lent groups in that time. We also host a monthly ‘Friendship Club' which started out as a dementia care & support group but has expanded to embrace everyone looking for companionship, fun, fellowship or support. We also host a twice monthly ‘Village Crafters' group for all kinds of crafting and for fellowship, fun and raising funds for charity. And finally, our weekly worship singing group meets every Thursday to practice old and new hymns and have fun and a natter.

Other events include craft fair, flower and art exhibitions, musical evenings, suppers, bazaars etc, with funds going to the Church and several other local charities. As part of its planned giving, the Church donates to several national charities, including Christian Aid, The Disasters & Emergency Committee, Royal British Legion and Salvation Army.
